Our vision is that every Crusader will have a healthy summer break by engaging in relaxation, family time, new experiences outside the classroom, and continual learning.
According to research summarized and shared by the New York State Library System’s Education Department through the University of the State of New York, it is estimated that summer breaks “will cause the average student to lose up to one month of instruction” (Cooper 1996). The summary goes on to explain that early development of good habits during breaks from school are the foundation for a student’s success in later years.
While we encourage you and your children to prioritize at least 15 - 30 minutes of active engagement in reading or other learning experiences into your daily summer schedule, we are not requiring any assignments to be submitted to your child’s teacher. Your Crusader should be ready to share, though, because your child’s Kindergarten teacher will want to hear about some of your child’s favorite summer reads and learning experiences!
